Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh (beloved brothers and sisters):
i am a revert... and i hope that you will take this opportunity (insha'Allah) to testify about your Islamic faith... i hope that you will accept this question in love and consider your words with thought... for i will surely be listening to what [advice] you have to share.
i do not have a mosque to attend so my fellowship is on-line... (and i am learning a great deal) Alhamdulillah!
So... given this opportunity that i am open to advice about 'being' a Muslim... what is the best advice that you have to offer? Do you have a favorite Hadith or Verse from the Holy Qur'an that you would like to share?
Thank you very much for taking the time to consider this question and request... and may Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala forgive us, protect us and show us the straight path.
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, ';He who utters: `Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi (Allah is free from imperfection and His is the praise)' one hundred times a day, his sins will be obliterated even if they are equal to the extent of the foam of the ocean.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Thank you once again... and may Allah bless you... Jazak-Allah.
(And all Praise is for Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala)
ma'salamAs a practicing Muslim, what is the best advice that you have to offer to a revert about being a Muslim?
Wa laykum salaam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuhu.
Welcome to the fold. Insha'Allah, start perfecting your salat. If your're not fluent in Arabic, make a script for what you're suppose to say (have your native language in one color and the transliteration of the Arabic in another). Insha'Allah, you'll start saying your salat in Arabic in no time.
Learn the surah al Fatiha 1st because you'll be reciting this surah throughout the salat (1st surah of each rakat). Learn some short surahs (I recommend 112th surah mainly for the meaning and then the blessings).
My favorite surah is Al-ikhlas (112)
Insha'Allah this helps. Hit me up if you have more questions-As a practicing Muslim, what is the best advice that you have to offer to a revert about being a Muslim?
Ve Aleykum selam,
I recommend you to develop your knowledge about Islamic faith.Because faith is the root of Islamic tree.I recommend the site below.If you have any questions,I'd try my best to answer.May Allah protect us in the true path of Islam!

In Quran, Surah Noor, Ch no 24, Verse no 30 says that a man should lower his gaze if he see a woman.
In Quran Surah Noor, Ch no 24, Verse no 31 says that a woman should lower her gaze when she see a man.
Best advice is, treat everything with most focused scrutiny. There's a lot of examining to do. Compare it all against the Qur'an and follow up, especially from the hadiths. There's a vast difference.
If you have not yet formed limiting beliefs Read and understand the Koran. It is the most amazing, logical and knowledgeable source of information I have ever run across. It makes sense if you do not filter it through limiting beliefs.
when you got a problems in life's.. something sin that you do that cause you to bad luck..
then Ask Forgiveness From Allah(S.W.T)..
%26amp; Zikir/Wirid This %26gt;( Lahillah Ahilla Anta.. Subahanak..Ini Kuntum Minaz Zalimin..)as much as you can..
Welcome!
Beware of disturbing traditional laws in the Hadiths.
The Holy Quran contains all you need to be a faithful Muslim.
Submit to God and spread peace and love throughout the world.
God ALONE, Quran ALONE !!

....ps:
personal advice brother and i'ld like you to forgive me about it is:
well based on your answer brother, i see you still qouting from christianity that sometimes i wonder whether you are a muslim or a chraistian?!!
dear brother you can't be both religions , you are either muslim or christian..
sometimes your answers are really confusing..
.....................
thank you for your patience and reading my answer..hope u forgive me if i bothered you with my personal comment.
I liked what you said about your Christian background- I have had a similar upbringing and feel proud of my 'roots' as well, as they helped lead me to Islam.
Here are two of my favorite ayats
4:18 Of no effect is the repentance of those who continue to do evil, until death faces one of them, and he says, ';now have I repented indeed,';
3: 129 To Allah Belongeth all that is in the heavens and on earth. He forgiveth whom He pleaseth and punisheth whom He pleaseth; but Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful
These help remind me to be sincere in my repentance and to know Allah is Merciful
salaam
Salaam Brother Sean.
♥♥♥♥';Remembrance Of Allah';♥♥♥♥
13:28 ';Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of God: for without doubt in the REMEMBRANCE of God
do hearts find satisfaction.
26:227 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the REMEMBRANCE of God, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take!
29:45 Recite what is sent of the Book by inspiration to thee, and establish regular Prayer: for Prayer restrains from shameful and unjust deeds; and REMEMBRANCE of God is the greatest (thing in life) without doubt. And God knows the (deeds) that ye do.
43:36 If anyone withdraws himself from REMEMBRANCE of (God) Most Gracious, We appoint for him an evil one, to be an intimate companion to him.
73:8 But keep in REMEMBRANCE the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly.
74:55 Let any who will, keep it in REMEMBRANCE!
74:56 But none will keep it in REMEMBRANCE except as God wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness.
80:12 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in REMEMBRANCE.
Please do the Remembrance of the lord by HIS beautiful name
YA RAHMAN (The Most Merciful) in a low voice Or in your heart and always n every time be mindfull of HIS remembrance.
Prays for you :)
Wa Alaikum Aslam Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakaat :)
Sean, from what I know of most people who are Muslim, you are one of the most positive, loving, and genuine of your faith, I have met.
Most I have met are angry, demanding and impatient. So my vision of this religion is very clouded, to say the least.
I do not instigate this kind of behavior, but it definitely makes me shy away from it.
I choose not have religion in my life but I would like to understand people of all faiths. We all have only One God. (Allah) :D
Peace...
May Allah Bless you and Always keep u on the straight Path.
Read the Quran and Hadith (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim are the most authentic) and try to understand it and implement it within your life.
Do not let those people lead you astray from Islam, for many of them do not know, so show them the true islam, help them, educate them, guide them...
Also if u have started to pray, then alhamdulilah..The prophet pbuh said '; the difference between faith and no faith is prayer';..
I also say to respect your parents, do not say any bad word to them..Do not shout at them, for in islam heaven lies underneath the feet of the parents.
If u ever need help on islam, email me inshallah..
Peace
walaykum salam warahmatuallah wabarakatuhu brother :D
mashallah to u reverting, welcome to the fold of Islam :P alhamduallah :D and mashaallah beautiful question :)
wow i think am on a roll with this ayah today :P 3rd time am gonna mention it alhamduallah :D
[2:286] God does not burden any human being with more than he is well able to bear: in his favour shall be whatever good he does, and against him whatever evil he does. O our Sustainer! Take us not to task if we forget or unwittingly do wrong! ';O our Sustainer! Lay not upon us a burden such as Thou didst lay upon those who lived before us! O our Sustainer! Make us not bear burdens which we have no strength to bear! ';And efface Thou our sins, and grant us forgiveness, and bestow Thy mercy upon us! Thou art our Lord Supreme: succour us, then, against people who deny the truth!';
~~~
so if u feel a lil low sometimes, or ur finding it difficult cos of the ppl around u makin fun that ur muslim, u just think ';meh, i can handle this, alhamduallah'; :D cos Allah swt gives u only what u can handle, Allahu Akbar
walaykumsalam :D
Walaikum Assalam
1. Never be lazy, always pray your prayers on time. By missing a prayer or neglecting it, you will never gain anything except loss.
2. Remember Satan has no power over the true believers. He can never defeat you as long as you are under protection of Allah. And Allah protects all of his favorite slaves.
3. Make friends with only the good slaves of Allah. Avoid the hypocrites among the Muslims.
4. Dont let the liars and deceivers influence you. Every time you hear something from them, verify the authenticity of the source. If they arouse any question in your mind, discuss about it with someone who is knowledgeable ( in Islam) and trustworthy.
Finally remember, believers are promised a good life in this world and the life that comes next.. So always be grateful to Allah and never be ungrateful.
Wa alaikum as-salaam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh dear brother sean
Ahlan wa sahlan [welcome] and may Allah subhana wa ta'ala keep you on the straight path always....ameen....and all of us who want to be guided astraight ...ameen.
I am also a revert and still learning much. I also have only connections with the Islamic community through online means apart from one main Muslim contact in real life [alhamdulillah]. It can feel difficult at times and isolating. Having some real life Muslim contacts will help you feel more a part of the community insha'Allah. I sincerely hope Allah subhana wa ta'ala will make it possible for you to meet some Muslims that have great conduct and adab in real life to help you ......ameen.
You are one of the most beautiful Muslims I know [alhamdulillah %26amp; masha'Allah] so please don't feel downbeat in any way. Insha'Allah you just have to stay as you are with your courteous adab [manners] and conduct and your very polite salaams to all, and eagerness to learn, and the rest of your transition and efforts in the deen should be easy for you insha'Allah as Allah [swt] has commanded us to be this way [Qur'an 4:86, 49:13 %26amp; 16:125 and Allah [swt] says ';Then do ye remember Me; I will remember you.....'; [Qur'an 2:152]. I believe that if we truly remember Allah [swt] from the heart with heart-felt purity of intention always such as for subduing the nafs, and if we have selfless love and caring [by acts] for others then Allah [swt] will be by our side guiding us insha'Allah and the nafs will be transformed through the ranks insha'Allah [Qur'an 91:7-8] which is the way to the Lord [Rabbil 'alamin] [Qur'an 1:1-7, 28:88].
I love so many verses of the Glorious Qur'an. I do think that taqwa [God-consciousness] and tawakkul [God-reliance] are key to success insha'Allah. Allahu 'alim. These being part of dhikr [remembrance]. ......
';Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah: for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction. '; [Qur'an 13:28]
';Then do ye remember Me; I will remember you. Be grateful to Me, and reject not Faith. ';[Qur'an 2:152]
And also living our life like the Prophet [salallahu 'alayhi wa salaam] who forgave all, showed mercy to all and was the best living example we could have:
';We sent thee not save as a mercy for the peoples.';[Qur'an 21:107]
And keeping resource to the middle way and not being extreme...so as to walk mid-way between fear and hope:
';And thus have We willed you to be a community of the middle way, so that [with your lives] you might bear witness to the truth before all mankind, and that the Apostle might bear witness to it before you.'; [Qur'an 2:143]
And not despairing [Qur'an 15:55] when we feel alone because Allah [swt] says: ';.....for We are nearer to him than (his) jugular vein.'; [Qur'an 50:16] and is ever there to listen to us [Qur'an 2:186]
Alhamdulillah.....La ilaha illa Allah.
Salaams...much love...ma'salaam
Learn islam trully and be sincere to God, irrespective of the conditions of others, muslims or non-muslims, and irrespective of their threats, insults, etc. be sincere to Allaah ! Sincerity will take you far ! If you couple sincerity with knowledge, then whats better than that ? If you have any questions, email us. We welcome you to our great family, the great brotherhood of islam which began with Adam, our father and ends with the last of us, until Allaah inherits the earth and resurrects us and assigns our places in the next life, the true life ! Strive for the best rank you can get in that eternal life, and what better provisions than KNOWLEDGE and SINCERITY ?
Be true to God, He will be true to you. Ask and He will respond.
The other piece of advice i can give is constantly remember death and visit the graves. Realise that your life can end any moment. Eg, stroke, heart attack, accident, etc.... so make use of every moment you can for the pleasure of Allaah. Many people planned long lives and their plans were cut short suddenly by death. Make use of time to LEARN and be SINCERE. PArt of sincerity is actually making good use of time.
Do everything for Allaah. Sleep with the intention of pleasing Allaah, gaining strength so that if Allaah wakes you up the next day etc, that you will have strength to worship him more etc... that way, your sleep can be a source of reward for you al well. Similarly, every action can be transformed into an act of worship if you do it for Allaah's pleasure and if you do it in accordance with the sunnah/way of the prophet. This of course, requries knowledge as without knowledge, how will you know what Allaah loves ? can't guess !
As you can see, KNOWLEDGE and SINCERITY is the key !!
Live for Allaah, and He will give you another life ! Live for yourself and you will be in misery in this life and the next. Make your choice now and don't let the weak muslims and the arrogant disbelievers and the clueless persuade you or discourage you !!
Look to the heavens... your home is there, in paradise !! not here !! prepare for that journey with KNOWLEDGE and SINCERITY. Part of true knowledge and sincerity is acting upon knowledge. ie, action. Meditating and baking knowledge in your brain will not take you far.. in fact, it will be a proof against you and it is be a source of regret and pain.
SINCERITY and KNOWLEDGE ! never leave it !
Welcome to Islam, the last and Final Religion. Islam confirms the appointment of Abraham, Isac, Moses, Joseph, David and Jesus by God Almighty. So in fact you will be rewarded twice as much as born Muslims. And as you enter Islam, you come with a clean slate, with no sins to repent.
Brother, Islam is the only road open to success now and our God is so merciful that even one prayer with depth of you heart, can cause your salvation. Our God is a Great Listener of prayer and He is happy with those who ask and becomes angry on those who do not ask. Prayer is the soul of salat. So whenever you pray, ask for something.
The more you ask, the more you will get and will be rewarded as well in the hereinafter.
Read Quran daily. A minimum of quarter of a part is required. Try to understand Quran, especially when you pray, you should be aware of what you are reciting. Remember we are talking to God, in prayers, so we should be conscious of the fact.
May Allah help you in adhering to principles of Islam. One companion of prophet asked him to say something for his guidance. He said:
'; Enter in to Islam and be hold it steadfastly.';
Muhammad Javed Iqbal
Congratulations brother for reverting to Islam! May Allah bless you and give you knowledge and patience.
Other brothers and sisters have given very good advice. As I have been working with reverts to Islam for about 20 years, I would like to add a few things:
- Islam is perfect, Muslims are not. We are all human beings. Islam sets the ideal way of life. Few people, if any, can reach this ideal. So focus on learning and practicing your faith. You might come across different experiences with different Muslims. Some good, some bad, and some REALLY bad. Do not let these discourage you. What is important is faith in Allah. Stick to it, work in increasing it, by all your means.
- Remember that the Shahadah is not the last step, it's, rather, your first step to the rich world of Islam. We are supposed to keep growing and keep learning everyday.
- Remember that Satan is very angry with you!! Now that you decided to take the path of Allah, he will do his best to deviate you. I don't think you will ever be worshiping an idol, but some people end up worshiping their own ego, as the Quran says! So just be careful of the ';advice'; of Satan. Keep your five prayers and try to increase your acts of worship. Pray to Allah, everyday, to forgive any small or big sins you might have done, and also to PROTECT you from Satan. This protection is essential, and it can be maintained by remembering Allah all the time (with zikr and prayer), especially by reciting the Quran regularly.
- One big trap of Satan, is arrogance. Just be careful. He might tell you now: Look, you believe in Allah, you are better than those ';infidels';, or you are better than ';sinner'; Muslims, or those who are ';innovators.'; All of these are traps of arrogance. Beware of them. Allah is the one who decides who is good and who is bad, who is going to hell or to paradise. So just busy yourself with improving yourself, and avoid criticizing others or imagining that you are better than them.
- Do not stay alone. Look for real life Muslim friends of your age group with whom you can share what you learn and increase your faith. This is extremely important, as Islam is a religion of community, not only individual. That's why the prayer in congregation was considered obligatory during the time of the Prophet and it is considered so by most authentic scholars: we need to pray in congregation. We need to live in a community. The Prophet, peace be upon him said: ';verily, the wolf attacks the sheep that are far away (from the rest).';
I wish you all the best. Please pray for your brothers who have answered your post.
Peace/salaam
Tahajjud:= [25:64] thank you for the advice! :)
dear sister [Almira] beautiful Muslim Rose...
i grew up with a Christian background... those are the roots of my tree of faith... and without out the roots... the tree would die. i am very thankful for my upbringing... and i am very grateful to Allah subhana wa ta'ala for guiding me to Islam. my love for Christianity is reflected in Islam... and i recite Al-Iklas, Al-Falaq and Al-Nas... along with Psalm 103.
i took no offense and your comments make me warmly smile with affection towards you.
Read the Quran as much as you can and seek benficial knoweldge, comprhend it and act upon it.
Allaah (SWT) says in the Quran:
“And give glad tidings to the humble. Those whose hearts, when Allaah is mentioned, are filled with fear, who show patient perseverance over their afflictions, keep up regular prayer, andspend (in charity) out of what We have bestowed upon them.”
[22:35]
Lessons from this verse
There are four ingredients to humility for the sake of Allaah.
A heart conscious of Allaah;
Having patience during afflictions;
Regular in Salah; and
Giving charity.
