Flying from NYC to Bangkok. Need airline advice on when to buy and what airlines are best.?

What Airlines are the best to fly considering price and comfort?

With a departure date in December 2009, how soon should I purchase my airfare? Is there a time where prices drop?

What time of day is best to travel? What day of the week is best to travel? ThanksFlying from NYC to Bangkok. Need airline advice on when to buy and what airlines are best.?
I agree with Gerald, good advice.

Must you fly in December? Near to Christmas is “high season” with correspondingly higher ticket prices. If you can travel late November to early December the prices would be much cheaper.

Normally you would get tickets about three months before departure.

Departure Tuesday is often a bit cheaper, returning on Sunday is cool as you travel “backwards in time” ha ha that is to say because of the dateline you may return home the same day you depart even though the trip takes more than 24 hours. Remember you will “lose” a day on your flight to Asia for the same reason.

Your lucky living in or near NYC because you can find a “consolidator” ticket agent also called a “bucket shop” in NYC. Those ticket agents buy large blocks of tickets as a commodity at a reduced price. Your will find them to have the lowest prices. Do NOT buy online from Expedia or the like because you can find lower prices from agents. Study Expedia to learn what flights are available and basic itineraries so when you speak to an agent you will have some idea what airlines and flights best suit your needs.

I also like Cathay, but EVA has what they call evergreen deluxe seating. It costs about $200 more than coach but is a business class seat. I’m well over six feet tall and love those seats!

Join the airline frequent flyer club and get miles. But this also allows you to choose your seat online 48 hours before departure. In that way you can pick an isle or window seat and not be seated next to a toilet or the like.Flying from NYC to Bangkok. Need airline advice on when to buy and what airlines are best.?
From NY, probably the two best airlines are Cathay Pacific through Hong Kong and Singapore Airlines through Singapore to Bangkok. Both are 5-star rated airlines of which there are only six in the world, and both have flights with easy connections to Bangkok through probably the two best airports in the world. Both airlines have great service, excellent food and state of the art personal in-flight entertainment with audio and video on demand, something most other airlines don't offer. December is one of the most expensive times of the year to fly to Thailand or anywhere, especially during the Xmas travel period. Early December or moving your trip up to November if you can would most likely be a lot cheaper. Cathay is offering r/t flights for around $1,100 now, but I'm sure will be higher during December. Weekdays are usually slightly less expensive, but not always and Iate flights are good for sleeping. I would avoid multiple non-partner airlines for ticketing and baggage forwarding resaons and especially if you miss a connection due to delays or weather you may have little or no recourse. Lots of airlines fly from NY to BKK, but if either Singapore or Cathay's prices are close, they're two of the very best.
